Smoke Grenade

This 3D smoke grenade project was a fun and challenging exploration of my skills in hard-surface modeling, texturing, and post-production. I started in Maya, focusing on getting the proportions and mechanical details just right to capture the essence of a well-worn, tactical grenade. Every bolt and groove had to feel functional, yet visually appealing.

Rendering in Arnold allowed me to push the lighting and materials, giving the grenade a gritty, realistic look. The metallic surfaces, scratches, and scuffs came to life through Substance Painter, where I experimented with layers of wear and tear to tell a story of use and action.

The real creative twist came when I painted the smoke effect in Photoshop. I wanted the smoke to feel dynamic and fluid, adding movement to the scene, as if the grenade had just been deployed. Blending the 3D model with the hand-painted smoke gave the final image an energetic, stylized touch that feels alive.

This piece is a mix of technical precision and creative expression, showcasing not just a static object but a moment of action frozen in time.
